Gerald Lancaster
Gerald Lancaster, (Known lovingly as Gerry, by all those who knew him) a much loved Husband, Dad, Grandad and Great grandad who passed away, peacefully at home, after a battle with lung cancer, on the 26th June 2023.
There is no doubt that Gerry’s presence will be missed today and all days. Gerry had an infectious laugh that could make the darkest of days that little brighter. A smile that could warm the coldest of hearts. Lets take a moment to reflect below on the life and legacy of the man we all miss.
30/06/1936 - 26/06/2023
A dearly loved member of the family…
Born on the 30th of June, 1936, Gerry would become a cherished member of his family. A loving dad to Joy and Carol along with son in law Howard. An incredible grandad to Natalie, Nathan, Harvey and Ella. Later in life Gerald was promoted to great grandad with great grandchildren Mia, Lacey, Laya and Jenson. Gerry was further blessed with his great granddaughter Nevaeh who was born to the angels and now rests in the arms of her loving great grandad Gerry. He enjoyed spending his time listening to music and watching DVDs. Gerald was an avid collector of musicals and music from the 1940s and 50s. He often provided his daughters with lists of CDs and DVDs he desired for birthdays or Christmas. Sometimes, he would even have his daughter order them from Amazon without his wife's knowledge!
Gerry was indeed a legend, often described as a genuinely kind and loving man who would go to great lengths for his loved ones. However, there was another aspect to this gentle giant that one would not want to provoke!
Gerald's daughter fondly remembers a time when Gerry, inebriated from whiskey at his daughters wedding, was in such high spirits of Carol’s special day that he was leaving everyone in floods of laughter and the evening concluded with him being hoisted up and taken to bed.
In his younger years, Gerald dedicated time to serving in the Army. As he embarked on a new phase in his life, Gerry began working in the pit. Subsequently, he moved on to David Brown's tractors and ultimately settled at Barlo Radiators, where he worked until his retirement at the age of 65.
Oh the love…..
Gerald absolutely adored his wife Geraldine who is doing great and still to this day making Gerry proud of his beloved wife. A once in a lifetime true love that saw the test of time.
It was well known how much Gerry loved all his family especially his little floss Lyla.
“His Journey’s
just begun”
By Ellen Brenneman
Don't think of him as gone away
his journey's just begun,
life holds so many facets
this earth is only one.
Just think of him as resting
from the sorrows and the tears
in a place of warmth and comfort
where there are no days and years.
Think how he must be wishing
that we could know today
how nothing but our sadness
can really pass away.
And think of him as living
in the hearts of those he touched...
for nothing loved is ever lost
and he was loved so much.
Oh the Laughs
Gerald was a creature of habit in certain respects. He insisted on having his dinner at 12 sharp. While other meals had no specific times, a delay in his dinner would invariably lead to his moaning or sulking. His preferred meal was always homemade, particularly pies or chips, and his drink of choice was either a classic cup of tea or a pint of bitter.
Gerry would be known to emit a few different regular phrases such as:
“Cough it up it might be a shilling”
“ tha knows”
“ it won’t always be dark at 7”
“What’s for dinner love”
An honour…
There is no doubt we will miss Gerry in every endeavour we undertake. His smile and compassionate heart will continue to inspire us, urging us to keep going on those hard days. As we await to see him again in the peaceful eternal rest, we may take this chance to listen to this song that Gerry loved as we reflect and celebrate the life of Gerald Lancaster, the man we have all been so lucky to of known and had in our lives.
May you rest in eternal peace Gerald.
