Braiden-lee Prescott
07.08.2009 ~ 01.09.2016
Braiden-lee Prescott lovingly also known as Braidybobs passed away peacefully and comfortably at Derian House children’s hospice at 5:10am on the morning of Thursday 1st September 2016. September is the month of childhood cancer awareness. Braiden-lee was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer when he was aged 2. It was confirmed that Braiden had stage 4 neuroblastoma that had travelled to everywhere within his body.
Braiden is described as a very loving and thoughtful little boy. He loved all his family and friends dearly. His brother Tyler was his best friend. Throughout all of Braiden’s treatment and the good times too, Tyler was found by Braiden’s side. Braiden loved to look after his little brother Kody, once he was born. Braiden would always try to make Kody smile, laugh, play games with him and even try to feed him his bottles. Braiden is well known for having such a funny sense of humour and even tried to make light of situations once he felt his usual cheeky self. An inspiration, Braiden never complained about anything he went through and always tried to have a smile on his face no matter what.
Braiden truly became an inspiration for many, many people up and down the country. This was felt by Braiden as he was spoilt by everybody that had the pleasure to meet him. So much so that Braiden was given awards in recognition of his courage! Braiden was chosen as Pupil of the year by Wigan council and child of courage award by Rock FM. This was a very proud moment for Braiden’s Mum and Dad and the whole family. Braiden’s mum Steph recalls how impressed Braiden was to be chosen as the winner of both of these awards!
GO BRAIDEN!
Braiden was in hospital more than he was in school but when he did get to go to school he absolutely loved it! He really enjoyed seeing all his friends and his teachers and to be able to sit and learn something new was a real joy for Braiden. It always helped that his teachers and friends would always make a big fuss of Braiden and he loved being the centre of attention.
Always a hero!
When Braiden was able too he loved to spend time in his favourite place…. Rothesay in Scotland. He would spend many summers making memories with his mum, dad and brothers. Once whilst on holiday Braiden and his family was staying in a cottage in Rothesay when Braiden’s little brother Tyler had been playing with the toaster and had accidently set a bag on fire. Braiden used quick thinking and came running into his mum and dad letting them know there was a fire in the kitchen. He acted so quickly he beat the smoke alarms sounding! What a little hero!
This was an instinct built within Braiden. He would often be thinking of others and wanted to make people happy. There was a period of time where a social media craze was to do the ice bucket challenge. Of course, Braiden wanted to take part and conquer the challenge, even though he was ill. He did it and nominated his Nanna and Grandad too!
Our happy cheeky boy
Braiden loved a good boogie. His favourite song being Blurred lines by Robin Thicke. He loved to drink organic orange juice and always enjoyed to eat out at his local Taybarns. He would go everyday if he could! At home Braiden loved to bake cakes. He especially enjoyed eating them too!
Braiden had an appeal going for him for his 7th birthday. His mum and Dad asked everyone from far and wide to send Braiden a birthday card wishing him a happy birthday. Everyday the postman would come with a parcel sack full of gifts and cards for at least three weeks! Braiden was so amazed at everyone’s generosity and couldn’t quite belie all the cards he was receiving. He was so happy and couldn’t understand where all the cards was coming from. He loved every second of the appeal. Some of the cards would contain money that Braiden could then spend on picking out a new toy. Braiden was truly over the moon. His mum can remember fondly how Braiden’s face would light up at all the cards.
A well loved little boy
Braiden loved big and was loved big in return. Braiden loved to see all his family and friend and cared for them very dearly. He especially loved to be with his mum, dad. Braiden always held a fantastic relationship with his nanna and Grandad Reece and really enjoyed spending time with them, keeping a really good bond. All of Braidens family and friends we’re very important to him and all played their part in making Braiden smile. Please take a moment to watch this video of Braiden to see his contagious laugh and smile come to life. Braiden will remain as a sorely missed and loved little boy who managed to capture the hearts of many. Through his family and friends they will continue to carry his legacy of kindness, strength and laughter. Our little Braidybobs… never to be forgotten.
